LIV Vintage WEEK 5

Unfortunately there is not a lot to show this week. It seems that everything will fall into place the final week (fingers crossed and a lot of cocktails).

I finished my screen. although it seems to need another panel.......

Found this lamp for my desk

Chose my desk chair and began painting some potential artwork

Had to swag it from the original spot (rental house)

Still to do:

Upholster stools
Finish sconces
Put final coat on the floor cloth
Style bookcase/ secretary

Find and hang art  (may have to do gallery style for LACK of a large fabulous piece of artwork)

Madrid's Lorenzo Castillo design epitomizes how mixing antiques and modern makes for incredibly FABULOUS design!!! Named to Elle Decor's A list of designers, Lorenzo has an extensive background as a dealer, and designer. His store in Madrid is comprised of furniture and decorative items in lacquer, brass, steel, leather, marble combined in different ways, "as a review of classicism from a contemporary aesthetic."

One Room Challenge, WEEK 4

Welcome to WEEK 4 of the One Room Challenge. Thank you to Linda from Calling it Home for putting together such a wonderful event !! I must admit I thought 6 weeks was no problemo to change a little room given the fact that I don't have construction issues, but.........SILLY NAIVE ME 6 weeks is a VERY, VERY short amount of time when you are undertaking SEVERAL DIY projects. Panic mode has definitely set in. Most of the projects I am doing are almost, but not quite completed. I am very fortunate to have a wickedly talented, innovative husband who can make all the ideas swirling in my head come true. We have never hired a contractor, the man can do anything!! Need a chandelier hung, done. Need to attach a piece of metal to my DIY sconce, (me clueless) done. DUH, RIVETS. Help laying out my floor cloth idea, done. Oh yeah, he cooks phenomenal meals as well.

Little side note. I special ordered a lot of brass rods from ACE Hardware only to find out when I picked up my order that, THEIR WEBSITE WAS NOT ACCURATE. The stated the quantity was 8 per order so I should have received 56 rods. But I received 7 measly rods. APPARENTLY THEY screwed up on the website but didn't feel they needed to make it right with the customer (I thought we were always right!) So that left me gold leafing MANY dowels. Just a buncha EXTRA time and work. Thanks ACE!


The screen is not quite finished, here is a peek of one panel. A little difficult to photograph laying down.

 I put this black and white design on the top of my desk to break up the wood, don't know if it is going to stay yet..

Living in South Florida leaves me simply dreaming about having a fireplace. It wouldn't be prudent to have something that one would use two or perhaps three days out of the year. But IF I have a home in a colder climate someday I might entertain having one of these......

One Room Challenge Week 3

Welcome to week 3!!!! There are so many great designs from this One Room Challenge, please be sure to check out the other participants. If you want to catch up on my progress here is  Week One
And Week Two. Now on to this week....

1 DIY project completed !!! I have changed the look of the console table from bland mica wood to
exotic python and brass. Why not go ALL THE WAY right??


I also realized that I am NOT a pink person. I apparently have a love /hate relationship with pink. Love it in other interiors HATED, HATED, it in mine. The room is now stark white. I can now walk by and not feel stressed that it's ALL WRONG



I am lusting over these fabulous sconces, but they aren't in the the $$ cards. I plan to make my own version of them incorporating a little lucite as well to play off the Sciolari chandelier.

I think a screen is needed. (Odd entry into another room that needs to be covered). I am inspired by the following and will be building one should time allow.  Hysterically crazy to add one more project, hell yeah! Panic setting in as the weeks are FLYING by.....

DESIGNERS ALPHABETICALLY B: HARRY BERTOIA

This week I am focusing on Italian born Harry Bertoia (1915-1978) A designer who excelled in many forms: jewelry, furniture, and my favorite, sculpture.

His start in design began at the Cranbrook Academy of Art where he met Eliel Saarinen. Saarinen asked Harry to re-open the Metal Dept. Because of an ongoing war and the scarcity of metal, Harry was limited to designing jewelry.

In 1950 Harry moved to PA at the invitation of Hans and Florence Knoll, of Knoll Inc. It was there he developed the now infamous "Diamond Chair" series

Harry Bertoia created many fabulous sculptures including the Dandelion series, and the Sonambient or Tonal sculptures.
